Among these, Lanzarote is also known as "fire island". IS the wildest and most evocative as part of its landscapes are the desert, the volcano and unspoiled nature. Despite its proximity to the African coast, the island's climate is tempered, even in summer, by the trade winds and is therefore an excellent destination even out of season; just think that I visited it at the end of January and it was great.
Here are tips for the best beaches in Lanzarote.
Beaches of Lanzarote in the SOUTH part
In addition to the lava rocks and some desert areas, the island is characterized by the presence of numerous beaches of extraordinary beauty.
Playa del Papagayo
Among best beaches in Lanzarote there is certainly Playa Papagayo, indeed probably in addition to being the most famous beach, the most photographed is also the most beautiful on the island.
However, it is not only renowned for its postcard landscape, with golden sand and crystal clear waters. Located on the southern coast, Playa del Papagayo is a beach protected by volcanic rocks and is inserted within the Los Aiaches nature reserve. Thanks to its particular conformation, the bay enjoys calm waters and mild winds that make it particularly popular with tourists.
In the reserve there are also other beaches, smaller but just as beautiful, like Playa de La Cera, The hole e Playa Mujeres.
Caution: to access the beaches of the reserve, and the reserve itself, it is necessary to use and take some stretches of dirt road, so when you will rent a car try to choose it suitable. You don't necessarily need an off-road vehicle, just go flat. A toll is also payable.
Once you enter the reserve you will reach Playa Mujeres with a kilometer of dirt road, while with 4 km you will arrive at Playa Papagayo beach where you will also find a small beach view with sea view.
Another valid alternative to reach the beach is to use one of the taxi boats that depart from Playa Blanca.
Playa Mujeres
This beautiful beach in Lanzarote is the widest beach in the reserve and, if you are traveling with children, it will certainly be the most suitable one, both due to the conformation of the beach and the presence of a large parking lot.
It is a beach less populated than Playa Papagayo as it is much more spacious; moreover it is accessible and at the same time extraordinarily beautiful, due to the colors of the water and the fine golden sand. It is also ideal for those who want to snorkel, there are few beaches in Lanzarote that allow you to do this activity due to the fact that many are beaten by strong winds and waves.
Playa de la Cera
Relative beach always to the south side of Lanzarote, a few steps from Playa Papagayo.
Next to Playa Papagayo there is Playa de la Cera; to reach it there is a path which in a few minutes takes the traveler to what is probably one of the most beautiful beaches in Lanzarote. It is certainly less known than Playa Papagayo, but in the same way as the latter, it leaves you amazed by its beauty.
Playa Flamingo
Playa Flamingo is also one of the most beautiful beaches in Lanzarote. It is a 200 meters long "urban beach". It is protected by an artificially created pier which has managed to create a rather quiet area and from placid sea. It is the ideal place for those not looking for adventure and unspoiled landscapes, as it is very close to hotels and the main tourist facilities. Obviously Playa Flamingo is usually crowded also because it is not very extensive.
Playa Dorada
This beach among the most beautiful in Lanzarote is characterized by white sand the result of an artificial creation of the beach to which a "protection" made of rocks has been added. As in the previous beaches, this made it possible to create a peaceful environment where you can enjoy the classic sea life. It is an equipped beach, so there are sections with umbrellas and deck chairs.
Other beaches on the Costa del Rubicòn
All the beaches I have told you about so far are part of the south coast of Lanzarote, the Costa del Rubicòn. The beaches of this part of the coast, as you could read, are among the most beautiful on the island. In addition to Papagayo, Mujeres and Playa de la Cera, they are worth a visit Playa de Afe, Playa de Puerto Muelas and Caleta del Congrio. Their beauty lies in the volcanic nature of the area, with black lava rocks in contrast with the whiteness of the sand and with the blue of the splendid turquoise sea.
Beaches of Lanzarote in the NORTH part
Lanzarote changes its face moving from the south to the north. All the more for the coast that looks N / NW. Here nature is rougher and the beaches become more special.
Famara Beach
It is set in an imposing massif and is one of the most popular destinations, as particularly wild and of incomparable beauty. It is certainly one of the best beaches in Lanzarote especially for those who want to practice water sports. I happened to visit it at the end of January, it was not exactly the ideal time to take a bath but I saw several people jump into the freezing waters and go surfing and kite-surfing. So, if you are passionate about these sports, know that Playa de Famara is for you.
Before deciding to spend a few hours in Playa de Famara, to take a bath and enjoy the seabed, it is always recommended inquire about the wind and current situation. It often happens that the conditions for going into the water cannot be missing. It is not the ideal beach for those traveling with children, but, being about 6 kilometers long, it is ideal for walks to recharge with nature.
By the way, not far from Playa Famara you can visit the Timanfaya National Park where you will see the various volcanoes that characterize Lanzarote and take a tour in a panoramic bus (wonderful!).
Playa de Las Conchas
I put this playa in the list of the most beautiful beaches in Lanzarote thanks to the advice of a reader. I didn't get to visit La Graciosa during my itinerary in Lanzarote (I hope to do so soon), but I have been informed and I want to give you some more information to be able to visit it.
We are always in the north of the island of Lanzarote. La Graciosa is the islet that can be seen at the Mirador del Rio. It is separated from the main island by a narrow arm of the sea; it is a portion of the island almost totally deserted and therefore completely in contact with nature. Anyone who visits the Playa de Las Conchas has the feeling of being in some Caribbean island. Incredibly white sand and transparent sea.
Although this beach is perhaps considered the gem of Lanzarote, pay attention as it is still the Atlantic Ocean, waves and wind can be incredibly strong.
Playa del Caletòn Blanco
Another beach of which I got news thanks to a reader. The Caletòn Blanco beach is near the town of Orzola. Protected from the currents of the Atlantic Ocean as it is on the N / NE coast and further sheltered by small barriers of rock and stones, it is one of the most beautiful beaches on the north coast of Lanzarote.
Thanks to this conformation, the Caletòn Blanco beach, which is one of the wildest and most unspoiled on the island, allows you to swim in complete relaxation in the crystal clear waters. Furthermore, the sand is soft and one of the main characteristics of this beach is the contrast of colors, between the black volcanic rocks and the turquoise of the water.
Playa de Las Chucharas
Finally, I conclude with Playa de Las Cucharas, to the east, on the coast of Teguise. Thanks to its exposure to the wind it is a favorite destination for surfers, windsurfers and kite-surfers. It is very close to an area equipped with services for those who do not want to give up comfort: there are bars, shops and clubs where you can pleasantly spend the evening after a day at the beach.
