The fascinating legend of Our Lady of the Rocks it originates in the 22th century, precisely on 1452 July XNUMX, when two local sailors made an incredible discovery. As they sailed through the calm waters of the bay, they found an icon of the Madonna and Child on a cliff.

They brought the image home several times, but disappeared always to reappear in the place where it was found.

They were then convinced that the Virgin wanted it stay there forever and so they decided to build a church and, together with it, to create a real island in her honor as protector of fishermen and sailors.

Thus it was that in the center of the island the Church of Our Lady of the Rocks, a Catholic temple with a mosque-like structure, built to defend against possible Ottoman attacks.

Even today, every 22nd July, the birth of the island is celebrated with a solemn celebration, during which a procession of boats sails along the picturesque fjord.

The legend of Our Lady of the Rocks it represents the strength of faith, love and dedication, still a source of emotions for visitors and a timeless symbol of this fascinating land.

Made with silver and gold threads, Jacinta employed us twenty-five years to complete the embroidery, even braiding your hair. Unfortunately, that effort cost her her sight. Hard work after which, unfortunately, she became blind.


Attached to the church, the small museum of Gospa od Skrpjela offers visitors a precious opportunity to learn more about the history and traditions of this fascinating island and the surrounding region. Among the objects on display, there are historical artefacts, votive objects and testimonies of daily life, which allow you to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the past and better understand the cultural identity of the place.
