Los Roques, 350 protected islands

Los Roques, 350 protected islandsThe largest coral archipelago in the Caribbean off the coast of Venezuela. A protected natural park where the most beautiful beaches in the world are located

Unlike the islands of Caraibi, Los Roques it almost never rains (even less than in Lampedusa) and hurricanes don't even arrive. Thanks to strange atmospheric phenomena, the disturbances dissolve before arriving in this splendid one coral archipelago along the Venezuela. That's why Los Roques is an ideal destination in any time of the year. Even more appreciated if it's winter here!

Seaside crystalline, white beaches of fine sand, a large one barrier Reef, temperatures ranging between 26 and 28°C and water at 25 degrees. An earthly paradise that can be reached by plane with a stopover in Caracas.

Great Rock it is the largest island of the archipelago formed by 350 islands and it is the only one that is slightly mountainous. Posadas are the only hotel accommodation opportunities on the only four inhabited islands of Los Roques. To protect environmental integrity, the construction of hotels is not permitted, this makes Los Roques a still virgin destination for organized tourism. The locals, however, organize excursions for tourists to the other islands of the archipelago, the largest coral atoll in the Caribbean.

Inhabited by numerous birds and an incredible variety of fish and sea turtles, it was declared natural Park in 1972. The seabed of the Venezuelan archipelago is among the most beautiful in the Caribbean Sea. Multicolored coral gardens, enormous elk antler cemeteries, gorgonian meadows can be found in the first 10 meters of the dive. The most attractive spot for diving is the southern barrier, where you have the best visibility (up to 60 m): here the barrier drops sheer to great depths and it is easy to encounter large animals (including sharks) and underwater caves.

In the Los Roques archipelago there are 92 species of birds, 50 of which are migratory. The most common among marine ones are pelicans, gulls, brown boobies and frigate birds. On the island of The Canquises lives a large colony of pink flamingos. On the island Two Mosquices, in addition to a small private airport, there is a center for the reproduction of sea turtles that can be visited, thus contributing to the financing of the marine environmental protection project. Cayo Agua, in the extreme south of the archipelago, due to its intact beauty, is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.
