Boa Vista is the easternmost island of the archipelago and therefore the closest to the African coasts, for this reason compared to the well-known island of Sal it is a little warmer and less windy.
Boavista is much less touristy, wilder and there are several beaches and places to visit.
For excursions there are several options, either you rely on guided tours to the resorts or agencies located in Sal Rei (the resorts are cheaper), or you can hire cabs and ask them to take you to the places you want.
The beaches are beautiful and unspoiled, the sea has incredible colors and is known for its very high waves.

Sal Rei is the capital of Boavista and the starting point for many excursions to discover the island.
From Sal Rei you can easily reach the center of Rabil, the islet of Sal Rei is also worth a visit, located in front of the village of the same name that offers a view of the remains of an ancient fort.
Boa Vista is ideal for those looking for a bit ofrelaxation and some excursions to discover the third largest island of the Cape Verdean archipelago.
Remember that between April and the end of May it is possible to watch whales both with organized trips and directly from the resort, a few kilometers from the coast.
There are many tour operators offering all-inclusive packages for a vacation in Boa Vista, here are some recommended resorts:
Lot HO 1, Urb. Morrinho de Baguincho - Salines Beach, Boa Vista Capo Verde
The Riu Karamboa is perhaps the best option, a very nice resort, excellent food served in the restaurants, (there are also themed restaurants) clean rooms, beautiful beach with sun loungers always available, very nice pools.
The sea in front of the resort is a charm and despite the high waves with a little foresight you can swim.
The Riu Karamboa is located a few kilometers from the airport and about 8 km from Sal Rei.
Urbanizacao Lacacao Lot 13 - Lacacao Beach - Santa Monica, Boa Vista Capo Verde
Like the Karamboa, the Tourareg is also a Hotel of the Riu chain and the overall rating is like the first one, all excellent from the restaurants to the rooms, from the pool to the beach.
The tip for those looking for a bit of relaxation is to book the Adults area which allows access to the quieter private pool with free wi-fi.
Sal Rei Cabo Verde, Sal Rei, Boa Vista Cabo Verde
For those who prefer to opt for an independent, do-it-yourself vacation, I recommend the Estoril Hotel, located in the center of Sal Rei a stone's throw from the beach. The hotel is clean and cozy, the staff is really helpful.
The structure is fully guarded by private security 24 hours a day.
The hotel restaurant, Cafè del mar, is also very good.
