Zanzibar, the Eden that smells of spices

Zanzibar, the Eden that smells of spicesDazzling colours, long deserted beaches, fabulous sea and a dream coral reef. Leaving for the low-cost destination of autumn

Off the coast of Tanzania, nestled in the Indian Ocean, is located the Zanzibar archipelago.

An earthly paradise formed by the island of Unguja, commonly identified with the name of the archipelago itself, Zanzibar and from Pemba, the second largest island.

Then there are smaller islands, like Prison Island, where they live giant land tortoises, Mnemba, a protected marine park as well as one of the best spots for diving and snorkelling, Qwale e Room.

Unguja is home to the main city of the archipelago, Zanzibar City. Its historic neighbourhood, Stone Town, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, is ideal for getting closer to history and traditions of the Zanzibari people.

Here you can spend pleasant moments among the stalls and the shops full of local crafts and crafts central streets, where the most curious can see the birthplace of Freddie Mercury, founder of Queen.

Inside it is covered with a dense lush vegetation made of banana trees, giant palm groves and numerous fruit trees.

On the coasts it is lapped by waters which take on shades that vary from Emerald tointense blue, with a rich barrier Reef, ideal for sea lovers: from the "beach animal" to the diving enthusiast snorkeling. A sea populated by barracuda, sharks, manta rays, tuna and Dolphins.

Zanzibar is also calledSpice Island, date numerous plantations di cloves, cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg, scents that can be felt on the island; a trade that has remained one of the main economic activities of the archipelago today.

In short, the ideal place to spend an absolutely relaxing holiday with few plans for the day, guests of a people extremely friendly: during the day, between beaches and snorkeling, in the evening you can rest on theamaca in front of a spectacular sunset.
