Cherry trees bloom in Japan: the wonder of hanami that gives hope

Cherry trees bloom in Japan: the wonder of hanami that gives hopeSpring is the season of rebirth and never like this year is rebirth synonymous with returning to life

Spring is the season of rebirth, of flora, of fauna, but never like this year is rebirth synonymous with a return to life. The images arriving directly from Japan demonstrate this. People wearing the anti-Covid mask, as per protocol, return to fill the gardens where the cherry trees are in bloom.

Punctual like clockwork, the trees in the parks of Tokyo and many other areas of the Land of the Rising Sun have blossomed. Those tiny flowers paint the gardens pink, the petal-filled branches envelop the tree-lined avenues, transforming Japan into a fairy-tale place.

This phenomenon is called "hanami" and the term is now used all over the world, even in Italy where there are several gardens full of flowering cherry trees reminiscent of Japanese parks. The Japanese are so precise that they know exactly the day and time when the "sakura" (cherry trees) will bloom. In fact, there are websites that follow the evolution of the situation throughout the country and that indicate exactly where and when you can attend the "hanami".

The cherry tree is a sacred symbol that represents rebirth and fragility and its flowering occurs in different weeks depending on the climatic area, starting from the southern regions of Japan. You follow an ideal route from South to North, called "sakura zensen", which allows you to fully enjoy the diversity of landscapes and shades created by the flowering cherry trees. The first area to witness hanami is Okinawa.

Cherry blossoms have now become a symbol of Japan. A magical moment that every year attracts tourists to admire the "sakura" gardens and coming from every corner of the world, with special and operational flights reinforced due to the great demand that reaches the airlines. Unfortunately, for the second consecutive year, due to Covid, this wonderful show that marks the awakening of spring is reserved for locals only. We must be content to admire it from a distance, dreaming, one day, of being able to see it in person: the "wow effect" is guaranteed.
