The lake was the hunting and fishing reserve of the Canons of Berchtesgaden, under the command of the Kings of Bavaria, which is why its name literally means King's lake. The emerald green of its waters attracts the attention of nature lovers who are struck by the depth of this Caribbean color. Its appearance, in reality, is due to some mineral particles present in the water. After the glacier from which the lake was formed thawed, some particles, too small to fall to the bottom of the lake, remained suspended in the water. These they reflect light of the sun creating particular and unique reflections.
