Going from Italy to Switzerland by cable car at 3.800 meters above sea level at any time of the year: it is not a dream but a breathtaking reality that is coming to life in recent weeks.
In fact, once the lockdown phase was over, Zermatt Bergbahnen resumed work on the construction of the Matterhorn glacier ride II, a surprising work that is part of the Alpine X project, thanks to which it will be possible, for the first time, to cross the Alps via cable car at any time of the year.
La 3-cable cable car which will complete the connection between Breuil-Cervinia and Zermatt (from the Piccolo Cervino to the Swiss side Testa Grigia) will be built by LEITNER ropeways at a cost of 35 million Swiss francs and will open its doors just in time for the 2021-2022 ski season.
Great satisfaction on the part of the Group which two years ago completed the Matterhorn Glacier ride I 3S cable car: “Once again our Group, with a pioneering spirit and by adopting the most advanced technologies, collaborates in the creation of a visionary work which has The courage and innovative strength of Zermatt Bergbahnen has once again been demonstrated” revealed the president Anton Seeber.
Making the towns of Cervinia and Zermatt (in Switzerland) united at all times of the year is not a simple undertaking: the installation of the 3S cableway in very limited spaces and at an altitude of over 3.800 meters, requires maximum precision from construction workers and a tailor-made design capable of adapting to difficult conditions. The three-cable system guarantees greater wind resistance and allows the 1,7 kilometer span that connects the two locations to do without supports.
Extreme precision, high technology and also sophisticated design and maximum comfort for passengers: the cabins, designed entirely by Pininfarina, offer passengers comfortable heated seats e large panoramic windows from which to admire the spectacular landscape of the Alps. But that's not all: lovers of luxury will be able to book the crossing on the Cabine Crystal Ride, embellished with sparkling Swarovski crystals and a glass floor that offers an incredible view of the glacier.
The new and more convenient connection between Zermatt and Cervinia will also be usable by pedestrians and will represent an unmissable opportunity to experience emotions that are truly difficult to describe in words.
