Switzerland in autumn: all the best of a fairytale country

Switzerland in autumn: all the best of a fairytale countryAutumn is the perfect season to visit Switzerland: here are many activities to do in this country full of surprises, now that the days are cooler

Autumn has truly arrived and with it the slightly cooler days: it is in this period of the year that nature offers its most beautiful spectacle, that of foliage. The world lights up with infinite shades of yellow, red and orange and it is truly splendid to admire evocative natural panoramas - perhaps after a nice walk in the woods. There Switzerland it is, from this point of view, a magical place: let's find out what the most beautiful activities and unmissable stops are to discover this fairytale country.

Switzerland, between villages and relaxation

There are in Switzerland beautiful villages and castles to be discovered and autumn is the perfect season to do it. Just beyond the Italian border, at the foot of the Simplon pass, there is the town of Brig: its marvelous Stockalper Castle is a true jewel, built in the second half of the 600th century by one of the most important businessmen of the era. Absolutely worth a visit, to admire the lush garden that surrounds it and the museum which, among its rooms, houses many relics belonging to the man who spent so much to create it.

Instead, it is in the Canton of St. Gallen, in German-speaking Switzerland, that we find the pretty village of lichtensteig: nestled in nature, it has become part of the circuit of the most beautiful villages in Switzerland. Mainly famous for its jazz and blues music festival, among its narrow streets you can admire ancient houses and historical monuments of great value. For those who want to treat themselves to a wellness holiday, then this is the right destination Ovronnaz: this small village nestled in the mountains is home to two outdoor thermal pools, where you can relax and fill up on well-being.

Activities to do in nature

Switzerland is then the ideal place where immerse yourself in nature and do outdoor activities, waiting for winter to arrive and we can finally return to the ski slopes. What are the most evocative destinations to discover? One of the absolutely unmissable excursions is the one that leads to the Lauterbrunnental valley: here there are 72 waterfalls that plunge between the rocky walls, with their foaming waters which then crash with a relaxing noise – some of them even flow inside the mountain.

Given the season, what could be better than treating yourself to one walk through the vineyards and then taste some good wine? The Lavaux region, in the Canton of Vaud, is perhaps the best stop for those who love this kind of experience: it winds along the northern shore of Lake Geneva, with beautiful, lushly cultivated hills. There are several paths to follow, both on foot and by bike, to then go and discover the numerous wineries which offer tastings of typical local products. In short, this is one of the most beautiful destinations for wine tourism, a travel trend that is becoming increasingly popular among tourists.

Finally, for those who simply want to admire breathtaking landscapes, Switzerland offers several train solutions with panoramic carriages, along via ferrata itineraries that offer wonders. In addition to the classic red Bernina train, now very famous throughout the world, there is for example the Lucerne-Interlaken Express, which connects two famous tourist destinations (Lucerne and Interlaken) with a fairytale route, along which you can see five mountain lakes, waterfalls and impressive mountains.
