Switzerland: the arts district is born in Lausanne

Switzerland: the arts district is born in LausanneLausanne is preparing to welcome Plateform 10, a new and extraordinary district dedicated to the world of art

Located on Lake Geneva, Lausanne is a Swiss city which - in recent times - has seen an ever-increasing tourist presence.

Famous for hosting the Olympic Museum and the Olympic Park on the shores of the lake, Lausanne - in 2018 - recorded a +2.5% in overnight stays compared to 2017, 43% of which were spent in the Canton of Vaud. And it is precisely because of this tourist vocation that he announced the birth of a new arts district: Plateform 10. A district that will occupy 25.000 square meters of the former railway area, and which will see the construction of three museums: the Cantonal Museum of Fine Arts (mcb-a), Musée de l'Elysée and Merit. Museums that already exist, but which will now take on a whole new meaning, in new locations and in a new district entirely with an artistic theme.

It will be April 5 when it opens the Cantonal Museum of Fine Arts, the Museum of Fine Arts, while theofficial inauguration of the neighborhood is set for the October 5th and 6th. In 2021, it will instead be the turn of the Musée de l'Elysée and the Mudac. However, Plateform 10 will be much more than the combination of these three museums: it will be a meeting point between fine arts, photography, design and textile arts.

THEmbc-a it was actually founded in 1841 by the painter Marc-Louis Arlaud and, since 1960, its headquarters has been that of the Palaise de Rumine. With Plateform 10 it will change location, but above all it will change identity: it will be a meeting place for different arts, for different eras, for different cultures, it will be a museum open to everyone and for everyone.

Il Merit it is instead the only museum in French-speaking Switzerland to be entirely dedicated to design and applied contemporary art and - between 2000 and 2016 - it saw 105 exhibitions staged. Now, it too will have a new home within Plateform 10. And so will the Musée de l'Elysée, one of the largest in the country to be dedicated to photography. Its new headquarters will be in tune with its ambition: to be considered by professionals and the general public as a reference museum in the field of photography and images.

There are many expectations around Plateform 10. From art lovers and tourists in general.
