Tamarindo Costa Rica: travel tips

Tamarindo is a small beach town in Costa Rica, which offers a lot of activities: surfing, yoga classes, horseback riding, nature tours and much more. But among the main activities that prevail in Tamarindo there is certainly "relaxation", lazing on the immense beach, reading a book and sipping coconut water.

We focused on this last activity, we found 3 days of incredible sunshine, and we dedicated ourselves to pure relaxation. I recommend renting an umbrella and sunbeds (10 $), you will enjoy the dolce far niente even more!

The beach of Tamarindo is wide and beautiful, the sea is rough but fantastic and also suitable for bathing. Tamarindo, with its many surf schools, is ideal for novice surfers.

Tamarindo Costa Rica: travel tips

Of course Tamarindo is a very touristy place, it is not the village with a bohemian atmosphere as Montezuma can be, it is frequented mainly by Americans, and the prices are quite high. However, I never found the beach crowded, also because it is very wide.

Where is Tamarindo Costa Rica?

Tamarindo is located in Guanacaste, one of the 7 provinces of Costa Rica, in Nicoya Peninsula. It is approximately an hour's drive from the Liberia International Airport, the provincial capital.

Where to Stay in Tamarindo

My partner and I have stayed at Hotel Mamiri, located in an excellent position in a quiet street 5 minutes from the sea and the main road.

Frequented by fantastic iguanas and friendly howler monkeys, Hotel Mamiri is surrounded by a tropical garden with swimming pool and Jacuzzi.

The rooms offer cable TV and safe, the deluxe also have air conditioning. For those who want even more autonomy there are apartments with kitchens and refrigerators.

THEHotel Mamiri It offers a bar, a restaurant and free services such as WiFi and parking. Wi-Fi connections mostly work in common areas.

The breakfast is good with tropical fruit, a choice of eggs, pancakes or toast, juice and coffee.

Beautiful area where you have breakfast, you will be able to socialize with hotel guests and maybe exchange ideas and tips for the trip.

The Mamiri hotel is close to everything, restaurants, supermarkets, banks (one is in front of the hotel) but away from the chaos, the only noises you will hear at night are those of nature, you will soon get used to the screams of the monkeys !!

The value for money is very good and the owner Mauro and his staff are kind and helpful.

Score on Booking 8.1, in general I recommend this Hotel, for its location and good price.

Where to Eat in Tamarindo

Finding a restaurant with reasonable prices in Tamarindo is not easy, so I recommend a very nice place where there are various restaurants, very good and at a good price.

It is located in the heart of Tamarindo, it is an outdoor square with tables in the center and various restaurants on the sides: Open-air Food Court Plaza | Across from Plaza Conchal.

I recommend without doubts Taco Tico, where you can taste amazing tacos and quesadillas, even vegeterians.

even the Sushi bar it's very good, and don't miss the great frozen mojto's Wild Panda (the first room on the left).

The beauty of this "Open Air Food" is that you can choose a table, sit down and enjoy what you like best, tacos, sushi or a nice pizza margherita.

For lunch, on the other hand, I recommend the specialties of Homemade Tamarind Pasta, where you will taste delicious empanadas, to try !!
