Filming has begun in Malta on “Jurassic World 3 Dominion”, the finale of the trilogy directed by Colin Trevorrow which will be released in June 2021.

According to the first images appearing on social media, the locations in which the new prehistoric adventure will be set include the cities of Valletta, Vittoriosa, Mellieha and Pembroke. In fact, videos are circulating online that see Chris Pratt - already protagonist, together with Bryce Dallas Howard, of the previous episodes of Steven Spielberg's 1993 remake "Jurassic World" and "Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom" - speeding dangerously on a motorbike to the streets of the Maltese capital, presumably chased by dinosaurs.

After all, Valletta, with its historic center made up of narrow streets, the beautiful buildings steeped in mystery - let's remember that it is the city of Knights of Malta and Palace of the Grand Master it is one of the most symbolic places of their power – and the teeming port is a perfect setting for incredible adventures fit for the big screen.

Vittoriosa (or Birgu) also overlooks the port of Malta which, together with Senglea and Cospicua, is part of the Three fortified cities of the island and which, in the 16th century, with the arrival of the Knights Hospitaller, played the role of capital. The ancient houses of the Knights have remained practically intact and the pedestrian alleys are full of small shops and it is never too crowded with tourists, except during the annual Birgufest, a very suggestive event during which the city is illuminated with candles.

A completely different panorama is offered by Mellieha, in the north of the island, one of the places most loved by tourists who come in the summer. In fact, here there are some of the best Maltese beaches: Ghadira Bay, Armier Bay and the Ghadira Nature Reserve. And then there is the famous Popeye Village. This village was born as a set for the film "Popeye", shot in 1980 with Robin Williams, and has remained as it is, so much so that today it is among the main attractions of cinephiles from all over the world visiting Malta, as well as a perfect for families.

The town of Pembroke is also the set of “Jurassic World 3 Dominion”, with its British name because it was founded by the Earl of Pembroke at the end of the XNUMXth century. The younger ones will surely have heard of it because it is nearby, in paceville, which is the liveliest nightlife district in Malta.

It is not the first time that Malta appears on the small and big screen, thanks to the Malta Film Commission. The Maltese islands, which include Malta, but also the small Gozo and Comino, have long been the natural set for numerous iconic Hollywood films such as "Gladiator", "The Count of Monte Cristo", "Troy", "Munich", "World War Z”, “Captain Phillips” and the aforementioned “Popeye”. But fans of “Game of Thrones” will recognize many sets from the first TV series including some glimpses of the city of Mdina, the Convent of St Dominic in Rabat and the cliffs of Mtahleb.
