By Nejdet Duzen /

Kos Town it is located in the northwestern part of the island and is the main port of Kos.

Arriving you are greeted by the imposing Fortress of the Knights, a medieval castle overlooking the bay where the port and the promenade are located.

Animated by bars, shops, restaurants and hotels for all budgets, Kos Town could be the ideal solution for those who are not satisfied only with being on the beach and sunbathing.

The city is characterized by a singular mix of modernity and tradition and, in addition to being very close to beaches of Zouroudi and Lampi, allows you to easily reach the hiking trails and places of cultural interest.

Absolutely to visit the Old Town, with its archaeological museum, the mosque Gazi Hassan Pasha, the ancient Agora, odeon Roman and the altar of Dionysus.
About 4 kilometers from Kos town is theAsclepleion, dedicated to the Greek god of medicine, the Roman Villa and the Roman House.

It is also one of the ideal places from which to take a ferry trip to Bodrum, located on the Turkish coast just in front of Kos.

The city of Kos is also well connected with the rest of the island by one efficient public transport network, especially buses and taxis, which make getting around quite easy.

Here it is possible to stay both in luxurious hotels on the sea and in small guest houses with more modest prices.

Another interesting solution for your stay in Kos could be the city of Kardamena, located along the south-eastern coast of the island just 30 kilometers from Kos Town.

This town has gone from being a quiet fishing village to busiest holiday resort on the island.

Kardamena is the ideal place for those who love to have fun as it is populated by restaurants, bars and nightclubs, as well as numerous activities to do. Spend an evening at the Starlight Bar, the largest night club on the island where crazy parties are held.

The kilometer-long main beach is the place that attracts the largest number of tourists and for this reason it could be extremely crowded in some moments.

For those who prefer a little relaxation there is Banana Beach, located not far away and surrounded by sand dunes.

From Kardamena you can then go on numerous boat excursions, including Paradise Beach, island of Nissyros andKalymnos island.

In Karel Gallas /

Antimachy it is located on a plateau about 23 kilometers from Kos Town and is one of the few villages on the island to have kept its traditional aspect.

It is characterized by picturesque neighborhoods, typical houses and wonderful landscapes, such as the typical windmills scattered around the village.

It is perfect for those who prefer a more relaxed atmosphere and cultural visits.
There are no discos here, but quiet seaside restaurants and tavernas where you can enjoy excellent local fish and goodness.

Here there are also the Venetian castle that overlooks the rest of the village, the eighteenth-century church Agis Paraskevi and the XNUMXth century church Agios Nikolaos.

Not far away are the beaches and about 5 kilometers away it is located Mastichari, that is the port of Antimachia, which looks like a small fishing village from which ferries depart for theKalymnos island.

The best area to stay in Kos: Kefalos and Kamari

Where to Stay in Kos: Guide to the Areas and the Best Hotels

By Michael Kalogerakis /

Ancient capital of the island, Kefalos it stands on the hill southwest of the city of Kos and is divided into two parts.

On the hilly part is the original village, with narrow streets lined with ancient buildings and the remains of a castle.

Going down to the coast it is found instead Kamari, with its beautiful beach and marina full of fishing boats and yachts.

La Kamari sandy beach it is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful on the island, perfect for relaxing under an umbrella, taking a swim or taking long walks on the water's edge.

This beach in recent years has become increasingly famous due to the fact that from here it is possible to reach the islet of Kastri, reachable both by swimming and by jet-ski.
Kastri owes its fame not only to its rocky appearance, but also to the fact that it houses the recognizable blue and white church that appears in the film "Mamma mia"!
