Where to Stay in Mykonos: the Best Areas and Hotels (2021)

As a world famous tourist destination, Mykonos it attracts thousands of travelers every year with its tangle of narrow streets, white beaches and crystal clear water, luxury resorts, and with its great summer party atmosphere both by day and (especially) by night.

When I talk about Mykonos it comes to my mind that if you don't travel to "escape" from everyday boredom, but travel to celebrate life, Mykonos, in this, is the queen.

Mykonos is also (it could not be otherwise) one of the most touristic islands of the Cyclades group and consequently without careful planning, choose where to stay could become daunting, given theexponential price increase as you get closer to the holiday season.

The big problem in Mykonos is that luxury hotels are expensive, but too
for simpler accommodations, you will pay more than you would elsewhere.

But if you plan carefully first, you have a wide choice and you will also find places where to stay with a decent quality / price ratio.

Caution!!! If you want to find an affordable place in Mykonos in the summer months, you need to book with months in advance (I'm not kidding)

SEARCH YOUR HOTEL NOW

Also one of the things I recommend you do is think about reasons for which you have decided to plan your vacation in Mykonos: if you plan to spend a lot of time at your hotel / villa perhaps by the pool, then perhaps it is worth spending more.

Where to Stay in Mykonos: the Best Areas and Hotels (2021)

By Martin M303 /

If you just need your hotel as a place to sleep, because at night you are going to give yourself the crazy life, location and value for money are probably most important.

If, on the other hand, it is for your honeymoon then you could indulge in super luxury. In short, once you know what you need it will be much easier to understand which hotel is best for you.

La choice of location instead it is quite easy since the choice in Mykonos is between staying in a hotel on or near the beaches, or staying in Mykonos Town.

My favorite choice is the second: the historic center is densely populated with pensions, hotels, restaurants and bars; tavernas dot the waterfront and there are shopping streets lined with trendy boutiques, art shops and tourist souvenir shops.

- buses are very efficient, so it's easy to hit the beach all day, then head back to town and get ready for the buzzing nightlife - it's when dusk comes that Mykonos Town becomes Ibiza-meets-St-Tropez style!

So if you are looking for a quick answer to the question where to stay in Mykonos the answer is:

The best place to stay in Mykonos for nightlife and entertainment is Mykonos Town, for families it is Ornos o Platis Gialos, and couples and honeymooners recommend staying at instead Agios Ioannis, Psara o Mykonos Town (although virtually every city is perfect for a honeymoon vacation).

Where to stay in Mykonos for fun: Mykonos Town

Where to Stay in Mykonos: the Best Areas and Hotels (2021)

Affectionately called "Chora" by the locals, Mykonos Old Town of Mykonos Town mirrors what we usually imagine when we think of best islands of Greece: whitewashed cubic houses with doors, blue painted wooden windows and flowers hanging from the balconies, narrow streets that spread like a labyrinth, churches and chapels.

Little Venice is a dense cluster of riverside bars and a favorite sunset hangout, as are the quaint windmills of Kato Mili.

A couple of worthy museums and an open-air cinema round out the sights. There are excellent bus connections to the island's inland beaches and villages.

in short if you are looking for a place to sleep to have fun, Mykonos Town will not disappoint you.

Nightlife scene, however, are also two other places: Paradise Beach e Super Paradise Beach they are popular for beach parties and clubs. You can also stay here, but I don't recommend it because they are quite far from everything and then from the city they are easily reachable by your rental car or by bus.

Cheap hotels and apartments

Proceedings: just 800 meters from the center of Mykonos town, Anais is a Cycladic-style hotel, simple but very clean. It has a garden and private parking and is one of the accommodations with the highest quality / price ratio on the island.

MyCocoon Hostel: a great choice for those looking for a cozy place and are interested above all in nightlife. It offers places in dormitories or private rooms (with shared bathroom), the terrace is magical and the location is very central.

Mykonos Secret Spot: another hotel where it is really difficult to find a free room, the Mykonos Secret Spot is further away from the city center and is therefore a great choice if you are looking for tranquility and rest.

Anastasios Sevasti: one of the choices at the lowest cost. it is located in a hilly position, has a swimming pool, terrace and a splendid view.

Mid-range hotel

Pinelopi Villa: during the summer months it is very difficult to find free accommodation at Villa Pinelopi, after all it is one of the best choices in Mykonos town. It is located right in the heart of the city and is a simple little paradise surrounded by lush greenery. If you find a free apartment, book it now, before you miss the chance.

Kampani Villa: do not be afraid of the price you will see on booking, this is a villa for 7 people and the price is about 100 euros per night per person. If you are a group it is one of the best choices especially for its seafront location, a stone's throw from the center, with a wonderful view, terraces and balconies that overlook the sea.

Where to Stay in Mykonos: the Best Areas and Hotels (2021)

Di breeding bass /

Just 3,4km south of Mykonos Town, you will find the Ornos village, a picturesque fishing village with a harbor full of luxury boats and yachts and one of the busiest beaches on the island.

The soft white sand, the crystal clear sea, the few waves and the shallow waters make Ornos the best area where to stay in Mykonos with children.

If the crowds get a little too much, a five-minute stroll around the east side of the bay brings you to the excellent restaurant Apaggio overlooking a group of anchored fishing boats, while a 5-minute walk north takes you to the Korfos beach, an exposed and often windy beach, but very uncrowded.

The beach offers so many activities, such as water skiing, windsurfing and more, and you can also spend the day strolling through flea markets, lovely cafes, and ending the day in the turquoise water.

With the streets lined with tavernas (Greek restaurants), the lovely cafes, hotels in every price range and local shops, taking long walks through the village is a must.

Explore the flea markets, go diving or take a boat to some other island, in short, whatever your idea of fun, here you can make all your dreams come true!

Where to stay in Mykonos for couples: Agios Ioannis

Where to Stay in Mykonos: the Best Areas and Hotels (2021)

By Leanne Vorrias /

While there are other areas suitable for couples and honeymooners, this narrow sandy cliff on the west coast of Mykonos is the best place for a romantic getaway and to watch the sunset.

Over and over again, this has been called the most beautiful beach on the island with pristine blue waters glistening in the sunlight, but in my opinion there are better beaches.

Agios Ioannis it is a place to find relaxation and tranquility, it is not full of restaurants like for example Mykonos Town, but there are places that serve delicious meals at reasonable prices. Here you find one of the most famous (and expensive) fish restaurants in Mykonos - Hippie Fish - and a couple of hilltop boutique hotels overlooking the Aegean.

Several daily buses from Mykonos travel the steep and short access road to Agios Ioannis, turning into the parking lot next to the picturesque church by the sea.

From Agios Ioannis in 10 minutes on foot turning around the promontory you reach the small sheltered and practically deserted bay of the Kapari beach.

Megali ammos is the right place for those looking for a quiet and more local holiday, without being too far from Mykonos Town and its entertainment (it is located just 500 meters from the Chora).

It is located near the XNUMXth century Kato Mill windmills and hotels fill slower, so it should be the first place to look if you want to sleep near the City but are close to holidays and haven't booked a place to sleep yet. .

Agios Stefanos

Where to Stay in Mykonos: the Best Areas and Hotels (2021)

By saiko3p /

Agios Stefanos it is not the most beautiful beach in Mykonos, but it is protected from the winds and good for swimming.

It is located about 2,5 km from the Old Port and about 3 km from the center of Mykonos town and is therefore easy to reach.

This small sandy beach has just a handful of restaurants and beach clubs, including the splendid tavern of Limnios on the hill overlooking the beach and offering beautiful sunset views and tasty Greek food.

The area is however well connected by buses to and from the airport and the town of Mykonos and by water-taxi to and from the old port of Mykonos town and to the island of Delos.

With its green waters and rows of sun loungers, the Psarou beach it is one of the most popular beaches on the island (and one of my favorites).

It is particularly loved by families and is particularly suitable for i honeymooners thanks to its relaxed atmosphere and white sand.

There are a couple of restaurants and the beach is well connected to Mykonos Town by a bus service.
